Second hand smoke facts are known as environmental tobacco smoke which consists of smoke from the burning end of a cigarette, pipe, or cigar, and the smoke given off by the smoker. Most of the smoke from a burning cigarette does not get sucked down into a smokers lungs. It escapes into the air where it will be exposed to everyone that is standing near the smoker. Second hand smoke facts say about the contents of secondhand smoke. In general, secondhand smoke contains a chemical that is more than 7,000 chemicals. It also includes hundreds of chemicals which are toxic. Moreover, about 70 chemicals causing cancer are provided by secondhand smoke and firsthand smoke as well.

Second hand smoke facts tell about its danger to everyone. In fact it kills more than 600,000 persons every year. In addition, about 5.1 million deaths were killed by active smoking that can also lead to the level increase of secondhand smoke. According to second hand smoke facts, there are 600,000 people who are directly exposed to these kinds of smoke. Therefore, a total of about 6 million deaths was surveyed and they are all because of tobacco burning.

According to them, about 46,000 heart disease deaths annually were recorded among adult nonsmokers in the United States. Their deaths are usually caused by lung cancer and SIDS.

Second hand smoke facts have shown that exposure to secondhand smoke over time increases the risk for lung cancer by around 20 percent up to 30 percent causing an estimated 3,400 lung cancer deaths annually among adult nonsmokers in the United States.

Exposure to secondhand smoke has immediate harmful effects on the cardiovascular system which increase the risk for heart attack. People who already have heart disease are at high risk.

Researchers have also found that buildings with smoke ventilation systems still have high nicotine levels in the air when smoking is taking place. In the same way they have higher nicotine levels in the air than buildings without ventilation systems.

In the last few years, due to the laws that ban smoking in workplaces and public places, this rule increases the number of households with smoke-free home rules. Therefore, it decreases the adult and youth smoking rates as well as the exposure to secondhand smoke.
